I have been working with building mentors to keep all doors locked and to check all visitors in the building. On Friday we had a former student get in the building and create a problem. In reviewing our security breakdown it appears that the side hall door by the loading dock was not locked and he came in through this entrance. I am asking that all doors be locked except the front door which is monitored. It may be inconvenient but the side staff door will have to be locked at 7:30. Staff may have to use the front doors during the school day also.

I am going to have to ask for every one's flexibility this week as we prepare for performances of the " The Promise of a Dream." On Wednesday at 8:30 we will do a dress rehearsal for the entire school. 8th graders will attend in person. We will call for 8th graders to the cafeteria at approximately 8:30. 6th and 7th graders will watch the performance from their 2nd period classrooms. This means we will not change periods until the show is over. We will skip 3rd period and attend the remaining time in our 4th period classes after the performance. The class change will be announced over the PA. On Friday we have a 12:30 performance for an elementary school audience and we will have to adjust lunch hours to accommodate. An adjusted lunch schedule will be out later this week.

This is college awareness week, and there will be various activities going on all around the district to explore college with students. I'll be at Milwood El. on Thursday reading to early el. classes. I encourage you to weave this topic into your conversations with students this week.

A few of you have given me thoughts or ideas to include in the Magnet Grant Proposal. I'll be working on this task this week as a draft is due by Thursday to be sent out for a critique. I'm still open to ideas if you want to pass anything on.

A reminder that I'll be meeting with the advisory representatives on Thursday morning in room 415. This is in preparation of their meeting with the community task force on April 23. Please keep the discipline conversation on-going in your advisory classroom.
